After completion, students move forward to foundational workshops in User Experience (UX), Front End Web Development (FEWD), Full Stack JavaScript (FSJS), and Python.

Your Video Intro to User Experience Design Concepts

User Experience Design, commonly called UX Design, encompasses all aspects of a user’s interaction with a company, its services, and its products. UX designers prioritize the needs of users and create solutions through empathy.

What you’ll learn:

  • Define User Experience (UX) Design
  • Describe the qualities and interests most UX designers have in common
  • List skills needed to succeed as a UX designer
  • Create a series of sketches to improve a door with flawed usability signals

Your Video Intro to HTML and CSS

Front-end web developers write the code that turns a static mockup into an interactive web page. In this workshop, we’ll take a look at the types of code front-end developers write, and even try it out ourselves. But before we do that, let’s take a closer look at the term front-end. Front-end developers are sometimes referred to as client-side developers, since everything we code is directly viewable by the client–in other words, the visitor to our website or app.

What you’ll learn:

  • Define front-end development
  • Describe the difference between front-end and back-end development
  • Use HTML to create web page content
  • Use CSS to style web page content

Your Video Intro to Full Stack

This workshop provides an introduction to Full Stack JavaScript. Learn about the difference between front and back-end programming. Start writing code in JavaScript and making changes to web pages.

What you’ll learn:

  • What is Full Stack JavaScript
  • How to write JavaScript
  • Storing data with JavaScript variables
  • Working with variables in JavaScript
  • Adding interactivity with JavaScript

Your Video Intro to Python

An introduction to the Python programming language. Learn about what backend development is and how Python differs from other programming languages. Jump into writing code and creating your first small program.

What you’ll learn

  • Backend vs. Front-end development
  • How to run a Python file
  • Strings in Python
  • How to print a string to the console
  • String formatting
  • Using Python’s input function
