What Is Code?

Sometimes, it feels like people who can code seem like they have superpowers. But what is code, anyway?

Code is all around us.

Code is used in things like computers, phones, self-driving cars, and all other kinds of devices. Movies and TV shows make it look like flying 1’s and 0’s, or weird green characters raining down on a screen. This comes from the early days of programming, when it was much more difficult to write code. You had to know a lot about the internals of a computer.

Today, it’s not as complicated as it looks.

What does code do?

There are thousands of different programming languages. But all of them are a way to tell a computer or device what to do.

Watch Nick explain:

If you want to try learning and writing code for yourself…
