In August 2014, Android developer Evan Anger visited the Treehouse studios to shoot a brand new Android course. In this behind-the-scenes sneak peek, Evan discusses his experience teaching on set.

Look out for Evan’s “Android Data Persistence” course, coming soon to Treehouse!

It will also be helpful for Evan to organize his Data Persistence section like either the Weather App or the Ribbit App, whereby he first explains what his app MemeMaker actually does.

After completing 5 of the sections, I still have no idea what I am actually coding.

In general, the Data Persistence section of the Android Development track is of lower quality than the rest of the Treehouse Android Development course. Maybe I have grown too accustomed to the original instructor Ben Jakuben, who explains things a lot more clearly to the Android newbies, and use animation and diagrams a lot more than Evan Anger.

My suggestions for improving this new Section:

    (1) Take the time to explain things such as Transactions, ContentValues or Cursor, etc. before diving into the coding.
    (2) Break the coding into smaller sections whereby the student can compile and make sure the code runs. In the SQLite section, Evan ran through 3-5 video clips of coding before compiling and running on the emulator.
    (3) There are students who use Android devices to test the codes. So the section on sqlite3 is not appropriate (it is based on running adb shell first).

  3. Thank you for one more superb post. The location altogether different may possibly any individual obtain that kind of facts ordinary great way of publishing? I’ve a business presentation in a few days, with this particular within the hunt for this kind of details.

I’m very excited for the release of this course Mr. Jakuben! There are a few portfolio-project apps on my to-do list which will require their own database and ability to save/set user-preferences.
