CommunityFun at the Treehouse Company Meet-up 2014

writes on September 30, 2014

The whole of Treehouse is at our company meet-up in Lake Tahoe this week. We’re 75 people strong now and our Treehousers come from all the corners of the US and beyond. Most of us either work out of the Orlando or Portland offices but we also have people based in San Francisco, Atlanta, New York, Chicago, Santa Cruz, Jacksonville, Greenville and London (among others).

Because we are so spread out as a company it’s important for us to get together occasionally to meet in person, bond and just plain make friends. Up to now we have only met as a company every year but after this meet-up we feel we need to do it every six months to stay connected with each other. Google Hangouts are great but there’s nothing better than seeing people in person!

The week is pretty action-packed. Yesterday, we had a day full of company meetings where some pretty exciting things were revealed (more on that soon!). Then we broke out into four main groups, Enrolment, Education, Operations, and Careers and discussed how to make each area more awesome.

Today, we did some outdoor activities to get our blood flowing faster. Some chose mountain biking, others kayaking, paddle boarding, rock climbing, hiking or a ropes course. Everyone came back with a smile on their face and exhausted muscles. Some are still napping!

Tomorrow, we are breaking out into more groups to plan more a-m-a-z-i-n-g Treehouse content for the next six months. There is a ping-pong tournament, golfing tournament and did we already mention the hot tub?

Whichever one we choose we will be back at our desks next week with bells on. Revitalized, re-energized and ready to change the world (some more).

NB* Some of the people on our flight were not with Treehouse. Can you guess which ones?

  1. Ha ha, it sounds fun working at Treehouse. The courses are fun too 😀 and yes I can tell who is not a Treehouse crew (lady on the left- first row and of course the hostess on the back) because they lack excitement.

  4. You guys are a-m-a-z-i-n-g. As a finance grad from FSU College of Business, I have continually praised you all not only for superior content & courses but also the way your business is ran: customers first! Thanks to you all (and lots of hard work and dedication), I literally was just offered a full time web/IT position with my employer, Florida Dental Association. Here’s the gist of how it went down:

Originally hired as an accounting intern for FDA on 10/21/13, I found myself struggling to find a place in the bean-counting field. About 7 months in the position (I was at FSU at the time going for the CPA cert) FDA’s IT department (3 very cool people) were in need of a “front-end guy” to help build their new website (new CEO = entire company re-branding). A mix of luck and a little elbow rubbin’, I was switched from accounting to IT on 5/1/14 to help design & develop a new, responsive website on Telerik’s Sitefinity CMS. Needless to say, I had NO IDEA WHAT I WAS DOING (still kinda don’t, but learning new things every day), but I did have a little background in HTML/CSS and a HUGE amount of passion and determination. Well, after taking on a portion of Treehouse’s Front-End Development track, I managed to piece together a concept design (3 master templates) for the site and present to the big guys upstairs. BOOM! After endless amounts of research, studying, and ~3 months of development, my design passed through all the right hands and today was our official launch of the site ( It was literally the first website I have ever built from scratch. Mind you, I haven’t even finished the CSS portion of the Front-End track! What a great team Treehouse is! Now, I haven’t officially taken the job as I truly would like to work for a dedicated “web firm”, but I wouldn’t have even gotten the offer without you guys. Oh, I have since decided against the CPA and will take on web work full time. Web world!

Thank you guys so much for being awesome. Hope you all had an amazing time.

PS. Always down for an interview! 😉

    • Oh by the way, as of 4:01pm EST we are currently having to deal with a few workarounds with our DNS/ASA. Waiting on our awesome backend guy (need those credentials!) to do his magic. In the meantime, you can check out Main site should be up and running shortly! Thanks again!
