CommunitySuper Limited Edition Field Notes

Treehouse
writes on January 6, 2011

We’ve hand-embossed and individually numbered 30 limited edition Field Notes, and we’d like to give them away 🙂 Read below to find out how to win one …

How to get one …

We’d like to give these hand-crafted items away in four different ways …

  1. [UPDATE] Congrats to Gareth Clubb! We’ll pick one person who comments below and send them one. Let us know why you really want one 🙂
  2. [Update] Contacted. The first 20 people that sign up to any plan on Think Vitamin Membership get one.
  3. [UPDATE] Congrats to Vicky Teinaki! We’ll pick one person who re-tweets this post and mail them one.

If you’re already a Think Vitamin Member, we’ll be picking 5 of you randomly to receive one 🙂

We’re only producing 30 total, so when they run out, they’re gone. We’re not going to sell these. Here are some more photos …

Here’s how we made them

We started off with a beautifully naked and simple Field Note …

Then our awesome designer Mike designed an embossed stamp. It’s fun to see something so heavy and analogue 🙂

Then he designed a hand-pressed stamp with space for entering the print number …

And then we have the finished product. Violà!

  1. Wow, these are fantastic! I have a set of the regular fields notes, but these would be fantastic to have. Great job!

  2. I want one too!

Heck I just want one, if you still have any!

  4. A sick man, would love one of those little handmade books to cheer him up right now!

  5. Mother Russia needs one ^___^ my grandchildren will be happy!

  6. I’ve always wanted to have an embossing machine.

  7. River Chan on January 10, 2011 at 7:09 pm said:

I want one because I want to touch the embossed finish.

  8. i’m already a member.. and i was just watching your videos for 60 full minutes on the treadmill. i think that deserves a field note book… #justsayin

  9. I am already a member, and quite frankly NEED one of these. My moleskine is almost full with notes and ideas, I think this would be really nice (although not sure I could bring myself to use it as it’s so beautiful!).

  10. I’d love to have one because it’s simply a great piece of design, and reminds me of all the crazy cool vintage stuff in the attic of my parents house as a kid.

  11. I would like to have it so I can stop using post-it notes to write my ideas! By the way, I just discover Think Vitamin and have recommended your site to other colleagues in the team. Now I just need to convince my boss to buy me the membership!

They’re so pretty – would love one to get through the boring back to work January blues x

  13. Give me the fucking notebook.

  14. It’s not the final product it’s the journey. I was in Amsterdam last year and found this amazing pen, ink, stamp and wax shop in a back street. I was so taken by some of the beautiful instruments in the store I knew I wanted to go back and buy at least a stamp for myself and one as a gift to my brother. Alas, I never found the store again despite three hours of back and forth through those back streets and across the bridges!

So what I’m saying is if my heartfelt personal story doesn’t win me a hand stamped field notes book, can I have the stamp? I dread to think what postage might be on that!

  15. These Field Notes are unbelievably beautiful and can make my every day special!!!

  16. It’s a beautiful stamp!

  17. Somehow my comment was erased when I logged into fb and then double posted and I can’t see how to delete this one… Odd.

  18. Hah these are awesome! A day doesn’t go by that I don’t have field notes in my pocket w/ their clicky pen. =D

Thing is… if I won one of these, I would end up keeping it!

I really think that I deserve one because I´m the fist post from México… Send one to México!!

    Send one to Montana, thanks!

  21. Count me interested. I often find myself in fields with no effective way to take notes. This item would solve that problem immediately.

  22. I’ve moved to the other side of the world to study, and sadly most of my design kit didn’t make it in the 23kg flight allowance. 🙁 I really miss my old moleskines and coloured pencils, so would love to start my UK collection with the gorgeous Field Notes!

  23. Wow! those are simply Bad ASS! Nice work Ryan and company! :). This is What What Don Draper would have in his 1K suit jacket pocket as a secret design agent!

  24. That is amazing… good job guys. If I get it, people will be so jealous of a wonderfully crafted masterpiece that It might get stolen… need to be careful.

  25. They look awesome, I really want one! They’r sweet!

  26. I’d love to have my first ever copy of Field Notes to be one of these… ugh that’s sweeeeeeeeeet!!!!!

  27. Super Limited Edition Field Notes. They just look so darn cool.

I would like one. If I could get one, I would probably carry it around and only use it for the best ideas that come to me.

  29. I would want one as I am always coming with lots of really cool ideas, then when it comes round to implementing them, I have forgot! And I then get frustrated trying to remember 🙁

  30. Anders Drage on January 6, 2011 at 8:14 pm said:

If I got this, my brain would stop always having a deja vou, I can just go into the book and see what kind of cool ideas I´ve scrabbled up..

  31. Hope me please to have such awesome notebook.I’m constantly looking for a small note book to write down notes from client meetings and can never find one that is the right size. And I would proudly do some crazy scribbles in it and present it to people telling them about some of the cool things you get up to.

I need something that is beautifully crafted to carry with me so I am always inspired to create.

  35. Because hand crafted and beautifully designed things turn me on (true story). Would love something nice and simple to scribble my ideas down and be creative!

  36. I get all these random crazy ideas and it would be awesome to have something to write them down on.

  37. I would love to have one of those, because you’re amazing!

  38. I would ove one of those… 1. Im a huge fan of handcrafted items. 2. Im an avid user of notebooks for on-the-go ideas and late night in bed idea generation via pen and iPhone light. 3. Think Vitamin ROCKS!

    Cheers:)

  39. I absolutely love handpressed things!

  40. Are these still available?

I would love to win this awesome piece of treasure. A perfect size for on the go ideas and scribbles that always come into mind when layin in bed, shopping, exploring the world with the kids-this seems to be the best place for inspiration-kids can inspire in the most simplest of way! I need to convince my boss to send me on more Think Vitamin courses and this just may be the ticket…

  44. I need something for my notes for my latest project: trying to make learning philosophy more interactive through online group discussion!

  45. The Field Notes are very nice looking. I have very legible handwriting that would only look better framed with such smart design.

My little black book is 99% empty. I need something smaller, and this seems perfect! 😉

  47. I just picked up my first 3pack of field notes for Christmas. I’m already out!

  48. I would like to win one because i have never won anything at such contests. Honest.

I’m a huge fan of letterpress work! This would be a perfect replacement for the 20+ folded and torn pieces of napkin and notebook paper that I currently use for notes now in my back pocket 😉

I just graduated with a BFA in graphic design and my boyfriend and I just finished redesigning an office space in our house and are on our way to starting a web design and development freelance business. I recently told him about field notes and how I’ve been wanting to purchase a set. I’m in love with the little notebooks. Winning some would make me a customer for life :]

  51. Imagine me at a Vegas celebrity event with all of the reporters with their Blackberries & iPhones. And then I whip out my retro field notes pad. Sweet!

Wow!! Looks awesome. I reallly want one 🙂 preciousss

  53. They look absolutely awesome. The perfect canvas for unloading all the noodlings in my brain.

I need one of these to restore my 18 year-old daughter’s belief that I’m the source of all things cool and hip. I recently made the mistake of referring casually to Banksy as “that tagger guy” and now I can’t even get her to listen to Flock of Seagulls! Please help…one of these notebooks would help me regain my status as Cultural Deity!

Wow, these look awesome – Mike’s great deign (again!)

  59. Lookin’ good…lookin’ tough…

  60. Dooooo waaanntt!

  61. it’s time for a new thought book. i’d love to have one this bad ass 😛

  62. moleskine is so 1980! ^^

  63. Anonymous on January 6, 2011 at 1:23 pm said:

Why would I love one? Well, chances of me winning are slight, never one anything before. However just looking across my desk to my stack of full moleskines makes me sad. How am I supposed to design nice things with no paper to branch out on? Giving me one would mean I was no longer sad and I’d be armed with the tools for making pretty websites.

  64. Oliver Edwards on January 6, 2011 at 1:23 pm said:

Good idea! I would proudly do some crazy scribbles in it and present it to people telling them about some of the cool things you get up to.

  65. Beautiful! I’d love one just so I can remember the wonderful folks at Think Vitamin. Plus I love notebooks. {sigh}

  66. I’d like to have one, because I can then use it as an excuse to fly to Bath, England to pick it up and convince you of allowing me to work in your office as an intern for three months. I will then sell the notebook on eBay to pay back the money I lent from my parents to pay for the trip–which will generate some extra buzz in the twittosphere. Win-win situation!

  67. I’m a lo-fi kind of guy so I don’t have a smartphone for taking notes on the go 🙁
one of these would be great for capturing the awesome ideas I get when I’m out shopping !

My thoughts require a beautifully designed landscape to reside in. Where oh where could i find such a place?
Oh wait what’s this, Super Limited Edition Field Notes. That will do nicely. 🙂

I’d love to have one because my moleskin is almost filled up and they’re too expensive to replace.

  71. I’d love to win one of these. I’m constantly looking for a small note book to write down notes from client meetings and can never find one that is the right size. These are field notes ones are great because they aren’t big and bulky like some note books.

  72. i’d like one because i need to write stuff down from time to time

  73. Wowsers – very nice

  74. I’m suffering from the ‘too much awesome videos on thinkvitamin’ sickness. Therefore I need to write some notes to clear up my brain. So yes, I could use these awesome Field Notes!

p.s. how hard is it to make such a stamp? Any place where I can get one?

  75. If I won this, I’d put it into a pvc pouch and hang it around my neck!

  76. I’m already a member of TV so I can’t win one that way. I would like to win one any way because these look like a nice unique item to have, though I would hate to ruin it with the thoughts in my head, regardless I would like one any way.

  77. Sorry for the double post.

  78. OK – I’ve taken a look and you tell me why I would want one 🙂

  79. I’d love it because it’s amazing… and you are the wind beneath my wings. That’s right, I have wings. Horribly disfiguring wings. What kind of man am I? If only I had a sweet notebook to compensate.

  80. i’m going travelling all over the world in a couple of months and would love something like this to make notes about design in different parts of the world.

  81. I would love to win one to show off to my colleagues and make them jealous of owning a thing as beautiful and useful as this embossed notebook!

  82. I’d love one because I just started as a freelancer designer and well, I need to impress my clients right?

  83. I’d like one because I’m a self confessed embossing whore! I’m instantly attracted to anything that’s been nicely embossed and these are exceptional!!

  84. it’d be nice to have one to keep it in my bags front pocket to be able to make quick notes of ideas and stuff

  85. Hi my name is Jon and I’m a recovering print addict, I haven’t had a hit of print for 6 years…
Oh how I miss the high you get from fresh ink fumes.

  86. Wow, I’ll use it for my delicious purposes 😀

  87. Why do I need one of these? I don’t have any notebooks that looks this great!

  88. Anonymous on January 6, 2011 at 11:52 am said:

I need one because when I have an idea it’s embarrassing to take out an old crumpled piece of paper, but if I have this people will be jealous instead.

  89. As much as I love using my mac, there are certain things that still need to be done on pen and paper. Those moments where you have an idea and it would take too long to get your machine out. Write it down. Thats why I want one please.

    Beautiful.
    Love the way you produce…guys..
    Very nice.

  91. I’m in the field and I wanna take a note. Wish I had this field notebook righthere. 🙂

  92. I want one to have the possibility to sketch my logotype idea and to note down something interesting at the Design conferences that I will see, in the more stylish notepad I’ve ever seen!

I want one because I’m going to Africa and I want to bring a piece of “Think Vitamin” with me to take notes on my trip.

  95. The only thing is Ryan it looks too damn nice to mess up with continual brain dumps about my ideas!

Though I do write in Palatino 😉 That has to be a save!!!

  96. How much did it cost to produce these? I’d love to do something similar with an embossed stamp on business cards

  97. I would like one because as great as cloud computing and Dropbox are – you can never guarantee up-time of notes and bookmarks, unless you have a super limited edition field note book!

  98. This notebook will help me get laid 😉

Please help out a mate! Cheers

PS: where can I get one of those stamp machines?

Love the stamp! Looks like something out of a John Le Carre novel!

  101. I would love to smell it. Hmm, handmade fresh.

  102. easy, because they look soeperdoeper!

  103. Anonymous on January 6, 2011 at 11:35 am said:

I’m about to start my own company, so having some analogue way to capture stuff would be great!

  104. I’m off to do some future planning in a couple of weeks, and one of these would be a great place to write down my thoughts and ideas.

  105. It’s spelled “Voilà”, not “Violá”.

  106. There’s something satisfying about using an embossing stamp when you’re normally used to working with bytes and pixels.
Also, your “Violá!” appears to have a typo. Either that or you’re trying to produce a string instrument.

  107. I want one because it’ll make me feel like a British WW2 spy every time I go to a client meeting and take notes! Quite fitting when I think about it…

  108. These look awesome! Would love to receive one of these as I leave uni and hopefully start on creating more awesome web related things than ever before :D!

  109. I’m already a member, so hopefully I could win one that way 🙂 I don’t usually enter competitions, but these are too beautiful to ignore. Even more specifically, I’d love to have number 3.

  110. Excellent work guys, this is just the kind of thing that sets Carsonified apart from other companies.

I still have the hand written “Carsonified loves you” postcard from FOWA 2008 next to my desk too 🙂

  111. What a beautiful stamp! I just signed up for Think Vitamin about 5 minutes ago, I wonder if I’m one of the first 20…

If not, then well I want one for New Adventures Conf, takin’ notes like a boss. Or something like that…

It’s just so awesome! It would be perfect for me especially this time for I am self-studying photography! I can write all my experiences and it will be a great remembrance and “look back” in the future when I become successful 😉

Oooohhhh I really looooove love love the stamp! Makes it more classy 🙂

  113. These look amazing would really love to win one

  114. Awesome, love the process and the red ink!

  115. I want one just because I love the work you guys produce 🙂 …

  116. These look AMAZING and seriously want! Loving the embossed stamp. I’m currently looking into Letterpress business cards as I just love this textured look & feel. Great work Mike and the team.

  117. Looking like a ration book from WWII, and with rounded corners…beautiful !

  118. The stamp is awesome, but I just love the red inking on the inside! It completely reminds me of old-school passports.

  119. Kim Røen on January 6, 2011 at 10:44 am said:

    Looking sharp! Really nice 🙂

I would write the stamp out of those.

  120. i’d love one because I love embossing 😀

  121. I need one of those embossing machines as much as I want that book 🙂

    Lovely stuff.

  122. Looks beautiful, Ryan 🙂
Always had a thing for embossed paper ~
and Mike’s stamp design works brilliantly, very, very nice 😉
