It’s Global Accessibility Awareness Day!

On May 20, 2021, Treehouse joins in the celebration of the tenth Global Accessibility Awareness Day, or GAAD.

According to the Global Accessibility Awareness Day website,

The purpose of GAAD is to get everyone talking, thinking and learning about digital access and inclusion, and the more than One Billion people with disabilities/impairments.

The events of Global Accessibility Awareness Day are designed to teach builders of online content to create first-rate digital experiences for users with disabilities. With more people working and attending school remotely as a result of the global COVID-19 pandemic, accessibility is more important than ever. And shortcut solutions such as accessibility overlays, or JavaScript widgets that attempt to correct accessibility issues as the page loads, aren’t good enough. Designers and developers need to consider users with disabilities at every stage of the research, design, testing, and development process of every project.

Accessibility at Treehouse

While we at Treehouse acknowledge that there are always more improvements to make, we’re proud of the steps we’ve taken recently to both spread accessibility awareness and make our product more accessible to learners with disabilities.

Accessibility Courses

In 2020, Treehouse added two different accessibility courses to our core curriculum.

Both courses cover important principles and recommendations from the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG), the internationally recognized standard for web content accessibility.
