LearnHow to Use WordPress Revisions to Go Back in Time

writes on August 13, 2009

If you’ve ever gotten your blog post overwritten by another author, you know how annoying it can be. Thankfully WordPress 2.6+ has a handy little feature called Revisions.

Here’s how it works …

Edit the post you’d like to restore to a previous version and scroll down to ‘Post Revisions’. Click on any of the past revisions (it doesn’t matter which one) …

Scroll down to the bottom of the page and choose the two versions you’d like to compare and click the ‘Compare Revisions’ button …

View the differences between the two revisions …

Scroll down the page and click ‘Restore’ on the correct version. Bam, you’re good to go.

There is also a handy plugin to further control WordPress Revisions which allows you to set how many revisions are stored.

    …when Think Vitamin used to have useful articles? It wasn’t that long ago. Now we get cruft like this.
    “GET vs POST” article – wow, way to reproduce web basics 101.

    There is still some half decent content on here, so it hasn’t been bumped off my RSS just yet, but it’s getting very close.

  5. hope you dont mine me subscribing since, i am really finding ways to do the WP. for some reason i dont find it easy and this article taught me some of the questions i have in my mind.

  6. Nice articles, i am new on your blog. Hope that i can find many important articles in your blog.

  7. Oh by the way, either your Akismet is failing, you don’t have it installed, or perhaps you should consider moderating first time commenters? First three comments look pretty spammy. Feel free to delete this comment 😉

  8. You can also limit the number of post-revisions by adding a single line to your wp-config file:

    define(‘WP_POST_REVISIONS’, 6);

    I’ve found myself doing this more and more often as I’ve never had the need to do more than go back one or two revisions (and that’s only happened once or twice) and not limiting the number of revisions does increase the size of your database an awful lot.

  9. I loved your article, because now a days I’m working on my blog and this article will help me in future.
