LearnCould you be one of the FOWD NYC 2011 Rising Stars?

writes on July 13, 2011

Each year, in addition to the household names and companies represented at our events, The Future of Web Design aims to showcase the best new and emerging talent. Our two track format means that we’re able to present a roster of “Rising Stars” – speakers who might not have had a great deal of previous exposure or experience, but who are talented and incredibly passionate about what they do, and who we believe deserve a platform to shout it from the rooftops!

We’ve received some brilliant feedback from audiences regarding the inclusion of Rising Stars in our line up over the last two years, and we’re delighted to be bringing the concept back to New York in November. Following feedback from 2010’s show, this year we’re also making a small change to the way we run things – rather than having a Main Stage and smaller Rising Stars Stage, we’ll be alternating speakers across two large stages, and mixing things up a bit!

Interested in Kick-Starting your Speaking Career?

We have several Rising Star topics that we’re looking to see covered in New York. It’s not a paid gig (this is why we generally encourage local designers with low overheads to get involved) but you’ll get free access to the rest of the show, a workshop pass, full video package and an invitation to our glitzy Speaker Dinner. We’ll also make sure you get some great promotion and exposure. All of our sessions are professionally filmed, leaving you with a fantastic resource for demonstrating your speaking prowess for future conference bookings – and several of our previous Rising Stars are now regular Carsonified speakers. We asked one of 2010’s Rising Stars, Jason Pamental, about his experience last year;

“I’d been thinking about my topic (Web Strategy) for a while and had written a bit about it, but it never even occurred to me that I could have the chance to speak about it! Turns out all I had to do was ask. If you’ve got an expertise or an opinion that you’re passionate about it’s just the best way to refine it and share it. Plus – if it goes well there’s no telling what other opportunities it might spark! It’s been an amazing turning point in my career, and really helped me to do more and more of what I’m really passionate about.”

If any of the above take your fancy, email Cat to ask for more information regarding what we’d like to see covered! We’ll be asking all applicants for a brief bio, summary of how you’d handle the topic and short video (web-cam quality is fine) introducing yourself and your chosen topic. Know a great talent? Let them know we’re looking for Rising Stars! Best of luck everyone, we’re really looking forward to hearing from you!
