I’m sorry it’s taken me so freakin’ long to get these designs up! Here are the entries:

Sean Johnson

Grant Bissett

Chris Abad

Karen Stout

Anna Bergman Template Monster

And the winner is … Grant Bissett! We’ve notified him and hopefully we’ll be able to up the new design soon.

Thanks everyone for participating. It was a lot of fun!

  1. I have to admit, I am loving Sean’s design. It lends to the side of readability, and makes it easy to find various types of content.

If it is too generic, a little bit of CSS goodness can spruce it up as time goes on. IMHO.

Sean, please release it. Good job!

  2. I think the comments for Sean’s mockup pretty much tell the story for why I wouldn’t have chosen it. Things like “in fact itâ€s probably one of the best wordpress themes Iâ€ve ever seen.”.

It’s too generic, it looks like a WP theme. Something outta the box. It’s nice, would make a great theme for WP to ship with, but has no personality, IMO.

  3. Sean’s one is a lot better…

I’m with the majority but what really matters is what Ryan fills the new design with – his thoughts and experiences.

That’s what I come here for.

And another one for Sean 😉

Being a parttime developer and designer myself, i really like that clean, simple – yet professional – approach.

  6. Another for Sean, well done.

  7. Sean’s is very neat and clean but still I prefer Grant’s. and not just because his first name is really cool. Something about Sean’s design looks too much like every other site to me. drop shadows, columns, tabs, yawn.

To be fair to Sean, I did just redesign one of my sites to have drop shadows and columns and tabs.

If you don’t mind, would you provide a larger thumbnail each of the design, particularly Sean’s.

    Thanks in advance.

    Sarah

  9. Congratulations Grant!

Good to see an Aussie (and even better a Perth boy) mixing it with rest. Go you good thing.

  10. I couldn’t agree more with everyone else commenting on here – Sean’s is absolutely the best. Where are all your current ads and promotions going to go? They’ve simply been eliminated in Grant’s concept. And…to say there’s not much “design” in Sean’s is a pretty silly comment. I don’t know what you would consider “design” but it’s definitely got the most class, the best information layout and is the easiest to navigate and follow.

In any event, it’s your site.

Quote “The reason I didnâ€t go for Seanâ€s is because there wasnâ€t much ‘design†to it. It didnâ€t feel like there was any personality.”

    Funny.

fyi – the hat thing isn’t personality, it’s dumb.

  12. Sean’s is clearly the most professional in the list, and as someone else said I was expecting the rest to reach that level, and they really didn’t.

The only personality Grant’s has is the hat really, which can easily be added to Sean’s, but it’s your choice 🙂

I’m sure Grant’s will look good too.

  13. Looks like we got a revolt on our hands!

The reason I didn’t go for Sean’s is because there wasn’t much ‘design’ to it. It didn’t feel like there was any personality.

I think one of my favourite blog designs ever is Matt Mullenweg’s.

    Sean for the win!

  15. Sean’s design is beautiful, I agree (as is Chris’ design), but.. it doesn’t have a hat.

  16. Sean, Sean, and Sean again.

  17. Hehe, I’m going for Sean’s design as well.
Awesome design. Easy to navigate/skim and it really pleases the eyes :p

Please release it as a free WP theme Sean!

  18. Another vote for Sean, possibly Anna too!

  19. Ha, all of the above agreed with what I was thinking!

    +2 for Sean

    Sorry Grant.

  20. Yeah, i’d go for Sean’s aswell

They are all good designs of course, but dude – what’s wrong with your eyes? – clearly the one by Sean is like 200% better than the rest. Clearly that one should be the winner – It’s classic, in fact it’s probably one of the best wordpress themes I’ve ever seen. I really hope that somehow becomes available.

What’s with the hat thing anyway?

  22. I’m for Sean too. That one immediately jumped out at me as very good, and so I thought the coming ones would be on the same level. But none of them made it.

  23. I would of gone with Sean’s as well, but oh well. If you like it, that’s all that matters. 🙂

I have to agree… Sean’s design is the best thought out. Looks great too.

  25. Dude, Sean’s is so much better.

  26. Another one for Sean – still creative yet easy to read.

    Liked Sean’s, too.

  28. Definitely would have gone for Sean’s as well, that’s a great design! He should release it as a WP theme.

The one you picked is cool as well, definitely different, and it’s your site so you know what you want to do.

  29. nice. but i would’ve gone for sean.
